Installation
What is a CAB file?
This is a setup procedure for mobile devices. Copy the previously downloaded
SmartMahjongg2.CAB file to any location at your mobile device. Then open
the file manager on the device, navigate to the folder containing the downloaded
CAB file, and click on it. This will install the game.
If you don't like CAB files, then you may use the Setup.exe from
SmartMahjongg2_Setup.zip with the Windows Mobile Device Center respectively
ActiveSync.
ActiveSync or Mobile Device Center?
Until Windows XP the
ActiveSync was used (sorry, is used) to synchronize a Pocket PC with a PC.
As of Windows Vista there is the new
Mobile Device Center instead of ActiveSync.
How to start the game?
After successfully installation of Smart Mahjongg the game is located in the "Games"
folder of your device, enjoy.
What is the Microsoft .NET Compact Framework?
The NETCF saves a lot of my production time. It's the base of Smart Mahjongg.
It has to be installed or Smart Mahjongg isn't able to run. There are some versions:
- for Smart Mahjongg 2: ".NET Compact Framework 3.5 Redistributable"
is available at
Microsoft's website.
- for Smart Mahjongg 1.6: ".NET Compact Framework 2.0 Service Pack 2 Redistributable"
is available at
Microsoft's website.
- for Smart Mahjongg 1.5 and older: ".NET Compact Framework 1.0 SP3 Redistributable",
available at
Microsoft's website.
By the way, do not confuse the NETCF with the .NET Framework for PCs, these are
two different shoes.
Errors
Error "This application ... requires a newer version of the Microsoft .NET
Compact Framework ..." when calling Smart Mahjongg
The .NET Compact Framework is missing on the Pocket PC. Please install the applicable
NETCF on your Pocket PC in order to use Smart Mahjongg. See above 'What is the Microsoft
.NET Compact Framework?'
Error "NotSupportedException" when starting Smart Mahjongg on a Smartphone
Smartphones are not supported. Smart Mahjongg needs a real Pocket PC with
Touchscreen. By the way,
"Windows Mobile 6" is used on both device types. But there are 2 versions, with
a little detail in the name: "Windows Mobile 6 Standard" (=Smartphone)
and "Windows Mobile 6 Professional" (=Pocket PC). And there is a very
easy method to detect it: Does your device have a touch screen? No? Without touch
screen it must be a Smart Phone, sorry.
See here for details: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Windows_Mobile
Error "Exception ... CustomInstaller.dll is invalid" while using setup.exe
This error may happens when an old setup is installed on your PC, please uninstall
the old version from your PC and then run setup.exe again. No other fix available
at this time.
Error "Format Exception" while clicking a tile
This error may happens in version 1.4/1.5, please update to the current version.
Fixed in version 1.51.
Usability
Uh... these tiles are too small and difficult to hit!
Devices such the HTC HD2 don't use a stylus, one must use a finger, what is not so easy at first.
With some practice, you will always succeed the better - and also the general handling of the device will benefit.
Furthermore the look of the game can be customized by numerous options.
Why there is no "Pause" function?
This application will break any operation when a dialog or any other application is called (eg. phone call).
Therefore a Pause funktion is not needed.
Why does the rotation not roate the entire application (ie. incl. menus etc)?
Because you will missing some space on the screen. But if you want it you have to use the windows settings or other tools.
Smart Mahjongg supports all common screen orientations and alignments.
Which files hold my personal settings/game/statistics/high score?
All personal data of Smart Mahjongg are stored in the two files "settings..."
and "mygame...". In addition there is a 3rd file named "tracelog..."
or "errorlog...", which contains some debug information of the current
software status (useful for me in case of bugs).
Others
Does Smart Mahjongg contains a backdoor/spyware/adware/virus?
No! I am a respectable software engineer. Smart Mahjongg V2 and Smart Mahjongg XL are certified by Microsoft. Enjoy the game.
Other platforms?
No. Only Microsoft based so called "Pocket PCs" with touchscreen are supported (including
Phone Editions, but no Smartphones). Other devices such as iPhones, Androids, Smart
Phones, Handhelds, Palms or ordinary PC or Mac are absolutely not supported.
Open Source?
No. Don't ask me. Enjoy the game ;-)
Who the f*** is Christian Morawietz?
I'm an IT Consultant. My skill is consulting and development of mobile applications.
Smart Mahjongg was an unplanned by-product because I was unable to find a free version
